Starting a VOBG (Voices of black Grandmothers) chapter in your state offers many benefits. It fosters a sense of community, allowing members to share experiences and insights. Collaboration enhances creativity and problem-solving, while collective efforts amplify impact. Group chapters provide a platform for networking, skill development and mutual support. Additionally the diversity of prospective within a group can lead to a richer and more dynamic environment, promoting growth and achievement of shared goals.

Want to Start a VOBG Chapter?

If you would like to be considered for a Chapter Leadership role, here are some traits that we believe will contribute to your success:

  • Possess a passion for building relationships and bringing people together.

  • Believes in collaboration instead of competition.

  • Sees the value in networking and building relationships vs trying to push heavy sales promotions.

  • VOBG membership.

  • Maintains a positive and engaging personality, professional demeanor and dress.

  • Possess effective verbal skills, speaks clearly, and is comfortable speaking in front of a crowd.

  • Is organized and efficient.

  • Has the time capacity and commitment to make building and growing a VOBG Cares (Voices of black Grandmothers) Chapter a priority.​

    • Fundraising Manager

    • Membership Manager

    • Events Manager

    • Marketing and Communication Manager

  • Viability of starting a chapter

  • Commitment to policies and procedures for VOBG Chapter

  • 10 Sustaining Members

  • Must pay Annual Dues

  • Meeting Location

    • In Person​

    • Virtual

Step 2 - Plan, promote and hold first Chapter-in-Formation meeting.

Step 3 - Complete Chapter Application

  • Letter of Application

  • Roster of Elected officers

  • Roster of members

  • Letter of agreement

  • Group 990 letter form - signed letter to authorize chapter use of the EIN number for tax exempt.

  • Chapter bylaws

  • Chapter handbook

Step 4 - Recruit members

  • Membership Guide

  • Sample recruitment Letters
