As a mom of 3 and grandmother of 8, Tonya specializes in providing platforms for black women of all ages to embrace their new and seasoned grandmother roles and shatter the stereotypes that black women face. Beyond her role as matriarch, Tonya is a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who have the privilege of knowing her. Her unwavering faith in God and her commitment to serving others serve as a guiding light in an ever-changing world.

Tonya has over 28 years experience working in the public sector. Tonya served 10 years at the Chicago Housing Authority with the Section 8 Program and Senior Housing Initiatives. She has served the past 18 years specializing in Data and Software Management at organizations such as Metropolitan Family Services, Robert R. McCormick Foundation and is currently the Director of Data Management as Catholic Charites of the Archdiocese Chicago. 

 

Born and raised in the heart of Chicago, Illinois,  Tonya experienced firsthand the challenges faced by black families within a legal system that was set up to quiet the voices of grandparents.

 

Determined to make a difference, Tonya's journey as a grandmother inspired her to create Voices of Black Grandmothers, a platform dedicated to empowering and uplifting the voices of grandmothers across the nation. Through her tireless advocacy and unwavering determination, she has brought attention to the unique challenges faced by black grandmothers.

 

Tonya Brewer Jackson is a dynamic force for change, a passionate advocate, and a relentless champion for justice. As the founder of Voices of Black Grandmothers, Tonya has dedicated her life to amplifying the voices of of black grandmothers, who often bear the weight of caregiving responsibilities with grace and resilience.

In addition to her work with Voices of Black Grandmothers, Tonya is a coach and mentor, inspiring others to use their voices and talents to create positive change in their communities. Her leadership and advocacy serve as a beacon of hope for those who have long been marginalized and silenced.
